Houtouwan is an abandoned fishing village located on the northern side of Shengshan Island, part of the Shengsi archipelago roughly 40 miles east of Shanghai, China. Originally home to over 2,000 residents, the village was mostly vacated in the early 1990s as fishermen and their families moved to the mainland for better economic opportunities, schooling, and easier access to food.Over the decades, nature has reclaimed the empty, terraced brick homes, blanketing them in dense, green creeping ivy. The location's stunning aesthetic has made it a popular tourist destination and a viral sensation among nature lovers and photographers. #nature #urbex #geography #aesthetic #core
