One time when I was in high school!

One time when I was in high school! I asked my white speech coach just randomly one day. hey, is it boring to be white? And he said, why would it be boring? And I said, well, when I accomplish something, it's a big deal because, you know, I'm female and I'm black, so typically if I accomplish something, it means I've had to overcome some challenges to get there. But when you accomplish something, nobody cares cause, you know, everything is built for you. I was like 16 by the way, and he was like, wow, that's really racist. I'm like, no, it isn't. So is it boring to be white? Because no one actually cares about the things you do. If that's really how the conversation went, it's kinda wild that people hear it and don't see the problem. You're basically telling somebody your accomplishments don't matter because of your skin colour. Then when they say, that's racist, the response is, no, it isn't. Imagine flipping the races for five seconds. If a white student looked at a black student and said, nobody cares when you succeed because everything gets handed to you, people would call that racist immediately. There wouldn't even be a debate. So why does changing the target suddenly make it okay then? Let's talk about the logic here. Yes, different people face different obstacles, that's true. But you cannot look at one random white person and decide you know their entire life story. You don't know if they grew up poor, lost a parent, struggled with a disability, dealt with abuse, or had to work twice as hard just to stay afloat. Skin colour doesn't magically tell you someone's life experience. There's also this weird Assumption that white people don't overcome anything. That's just not reality. Every single person has challenges. Some are connected to race, some aren't. Life is more complicated than reducing people to one characteristic. What really gets me is the phrase everything was built for you. Even if you want to have a broader conversation about history or social systems, that's completely different from talking to an individual human being and acting like you already know what their life has been. That's prejudice. And then asking is it boring to be white because nobody cares what you do? No, people's achievements matter because they worked for them. Graduation, promotions, championships, businesses, military service, raising a family, overcoming addiction, surviving hardship. Those things matter regardless of race. You don't make Equality by dismissing one group's accomplishments. You don't fight prejudice with more prejudice. And honestly, credit to that teacher for calmly saying that's really racist instead of getting angry. Because he wasn't attacking her; he was pointing out that judging someone solely by their race is exactly what racism is. The standard should be simple don't stereotype people. Don't assume someone's life was easy because they're white. Don't assume someone's life was easy because they're black. Judge people as individuals, not As representatives of a racial category. That's a standard that applies to everybody. Say Cheer to muriko.
