In my opinion, there are several reasons behind this. The platform has historically struggled with SEO compared to more flexible alternatives. This is still a real problem. Many of its AI promises are still evolving, competition from AI-powered “vibe coding” tools has intensified, and its template-based approach is starting to feel dated in a world where AI can build highly customised websites from a simple prompt. At the same time, Wix is investing heavily in AI and restructuring the business, including significant workforce reductions, while trying to compete with a new generation of AI-native website builders.
