If all you care about is money, well, this is the series where I go through the highest paying fields for each major. And today we're talking about electrical engineering. Make sure to leave in the comments what major you want me to do next. The first field is chip design. These engineers designed the tiny computer chips that powered just about everything. So your phone, your laptop, your gaming consoles. They spend their time designing, testing, and verifying the chips before they're manufactured. The next field is quantitative finance. This one's a little bit different. Some electrical engineers end up working at trading firms. This is where they'll use math and programming to help make automated trades in the financial markets. This is not the most common path, but it can be one of the highest paying paths. The next field is working with semiconductors. Here, engineers develop the manufacturing process used to make computer chips. They work on improving performance and increasing production yield. They are solving problems inside the fabrication facilities industry. Next industry, and an industry that's really booming lately is the data center industry. This is where data center engineers design the power systems that keep those massive facilities online 24/7. And you have the oil and gas industry. This is where electrical engineers design and maintain the electrical systems that keep refineries, pipelines, and offshore platforms operating safely. Also, honorable mention to engineering management. These people lead engineering teams. They ensure that projects get done on time and within budget.
