Today I visit the club just across the border. It's over 100 years old, once played as high as Spain's third division, and today competes in the sixth tier. The club has a history of developing talent. Several players developed here before going on to play at La Liga, Spain's top division. The head coach, president and board members spent the morning showing me around the facilities. A 5,000 seat turf, a 3,000 seat natural grass stadium, and a dedicated futsal complex. Definitely a lot more facilities than you'd expect from a lower division team. It was pretty awesome. This wasn't a plan. I had never even heard about this team two days ago. I was going to be driving past. I asked for an intro on Saturday online. I got the intro 11 hours later. I was touring the club and today I was touring the club with its leadership team. And I'm really glad it happened. I came away impressed not just by the facilities, but by the people, the history. This is definitely a club I'll be getting to know a lot better.
