Dixia Cheng (Beijing’s Underground City) is a sprawling, Cold War-era labyrinth of tunnels and fallout shelters dug by hand beneath the Chinese capital. Constructed between 1969 and 1979 during Sino-Soviet tensions, it spanned roughly 33 square miles and was designed to house up to a million people in the event of a nuclear attack. While much of the complex fell into disrepair or was repurposed over the decades, the tunnels offer a fascinating glimpse into China's history. #facts #china #urbex #core #History
