If you're from the EU, listen up because today they're gonna be tracking your every move. From July 7th, a new wave of EU safety features is mandatory on all newly registered vehicles. So when you buy a brand new vehicle, it's gonna come with this new extra kit installed into the car and that will basically be watching you 24/7 when you drive. So, it's gonna be pointed at you and it's gonna use infrared cameras pointed at the driver to analyze behavior, tracking eye movement, blinking, where you are looking and even yawning to spot attention drifts. The intent, catching drowsy or distracted drivers, is genuinely worthwhile. Driver distraction plays a role in a meaningful share of fatal crashes. But an always-on camera staring at your face is exactly the kind of thing that makes people uneasy, especially given the fact that this could in future be tied to alcohol detection or ignition interlocks. I thought the GDPR that the EU created was supposed to protect data of their own people. But now you're literally getting a camera installed inside your car every time you drive has to be tracked. Let me know how you feel about this because I'm not from the EU, but this is a little edgy.
