I was a founder for years. I'm a VC now. And I'll be honest about which life was better. VC has the security. Steady management fee every year. The founder is one bad quarter from running out of cash. VC has the better sleep. You make 10 bets, 1 has to work. The founder gets exactly one bet, and lies awake thinking about payroll on the 30th. But the founder has the higher ceiling. One breakout founder out-earns 20 VCs. Being a VC is more comfortable, no question. But nothing hits the way it hit at 2am when 6 months of work finally clicked with users. I miss that.
