I spent my 20s building 2 different startups in Silicon Valley. Then I moved to Asia and spent the past 15 years investing and backing startups out of my VC firm. Before I was an investor, I was a founder. My first startup got dissolved with many lessons learned. My second startup, we built to over 100,000 communities and it was acquired. After the acquisition, I took off backpacking to Asia with my wife. Singapore, Seoul, Beijing, Jakarta, Bangkok, everywhere we went. I met startups building great companies, but no one to back them. So I stayed, starting Golden Gate Ventures, managing 300 million dollars, backing over 100 startups around Asia with 9 unicorns. Everyone in the valley said Asia was too early, too fragmented, too risky. I moved my whole life here because what I saw on the ground didn't match up with the story people were telling. These days I'm based in Vietnam with my family, guest lecturing across Singapore, Vietnam, Australia. I'm mentoring startups across 7 different countries, all while trying to be a dad and managing a portfolio across 6 different time zones. Just wrote my first book, Mind The Gap, about everything I learned scaling businesses across cultures. I'm trying to share more behind the scenes founder stuff on here. So this is my life.
