Gotten so many questions about my solo trip diaries: Horseback riding in Egypt. I wanted to give a little bit more context into who I booked with, how the horses were treated, and just the overall experience. There's something that's just so magical about riding out in the desert with those horses. They are so fast, you can tell that they love to run and they're so spirited. So first up, I went on a tour with a company called Tal3t Kheal. They are based in Cairo but they do rides all over the country. The tour that I booked was a six-day tour. But if you are in Egypt or you are going to visit Egypt and you don't want to commit to a six-day horse tour, Tal3t Kheal also does daily rides and does rides to the pyramids. That's probably the better option than just showing up and paying someone to take their cart pony that's been tied up all day. I had a lot of questions about the well-being of the horses. When you first arrive, you actually stay at a resort where the horses are stabled. They have adequate access to turn out. They are well taken care of. They do not stand around in their tack all day waiting to be ridden. If you're like a super beginner and like, horses scare you and you're the type of person that like, if your horse starts going a little bit faster than you want to, you just grab all of the reins and you tense up. Maybe consider taking lessons. Arabian horses that they have are also very sensitive. And so if you're really, really keyed up, they will get really keyed up too. All of the horses are stallions, which I think is a surprise to a lot of people who are used to riding horses that are a little bit more tame. They are actually very full of personality and life. That I think you will come to find you have an appreciation for riding stallions. If you're expecting to just be, like, ponying around, this is clearly not the tour for you. If you are beginner, it's not going to be the end of the world. They do adjust for the overall group's ability levels. So if there's a handful of people that are a bit slower or a bit newer, they will go in a slightly slower group. Whereas the more advanced riders will ride toward the front. You don't necessarily get the same horse throughout the entire duration of the trip. They try to match the personality and the temperament of the horse with the rider. Lastly, they do not provide riding gear. So if you are the type to insist upon wearing a helmet, bring your own. Full riding gear is a bit hard to pack. I just went with paddock boots and some half chaps and that worked fine for me. This isn't really the tour that you want to book if you're looking for a holistic experience of Egypt. We did go to the Egyptian Museum the same day that we went to visit the pyramids. But again, that's probably the most touristy part of the trip. The rest of it is pretty much focused on horseback riding and some of the other experiences I listed in my previous video. Overall, highly, highly recommend booking with Tal3t Kheal. They are so not paying me. I am just saying this because I had genuinely just the best experience with this team. In a way, I feel like the horses end up teaching you something about yourself. And that's a really beautiful experience to have. So if you're open to that and you're willing to connect with the horse, and just willing to be changed by the experience, you'll have a great time.
