This employee got laid off by Atlassian and the next thing he did was record a 40-minute video covering everything he built there. His name is Vasilisios Syracos and he spent eight hours at Atlassian building the edge infrastructure. The invisible layer sitting in front of Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket, handling every request from 350,000 customers worldwide. Instead of the usual LinkedIn post, he just hit record and broke down exactly how he built it. 2000 proxy servers across 13 AWS regions, a custom control plane he open-sourced called Sovereign and an authentication system he wrote himself in Rust. The video hit 2 million views in days, but Atlassian cut him as part of a so-called AI pivot while posting record profits. He uses AI for debugging and code search, but says the dangerous part is outsourcing your thinking to it. AI can help you build fast, but it can't help you maintain what breaks two years later.
