So something that I don't think that is talked about enough is how the growth, the general growth that was going on in the American economy for such a long period of time is taken by people who work during that time as evidence of their own skill and effectiveness, not as the fact that they were just in a rising tide. I think this is true of both boomers and Gen X that both of them think like, I worked in sales for a very long time from 2010 like onwards. Like I was in sales in during a time when the economy was like not really growing. And it was very frustrating to sell anything. And all the people I worked with were either boomers or Gen X. So this has been like 15 years of time where people who had developed careers during a period of growth, assumed that they were successful because of their own skill. Like, dude, you were selling email marketing at a time when everybody was buying email marketing. You weren't good at sales. You just were selling a product people wanted. And then if you end up as a millennial, working in startup culture, at the time when like people are not really buying anything, your actual skills are honed so much stronger. But the people who are leading you, do not actually possess the skills they are requiring you to have. They don't actually can't teach you because they were living through a time when everything was becoming easy for them. And even worse, if you start to complain about it, they're like, I don't understand why you're not working hard enough. Like, this should be working out for you. Yeah, according to you, it should be working out for me because during the time in which you were doing my job, it was working out for everybody. Like, I have had to have a conversation with my parents telling them, I have had three unpaid internships. Two of them really prestigious. US State Department, National Public Radio. I worked for a lot of people doing a lot of stuff for less than I was worth because they didn't have the money to pay me in order to try to while my skills. I did all of these things. My parents just went to college. Like that was the plan. And it's amazing to me because they totally didn't get it. I have to work harder for the same thing. Or for less. That's why everybody who's succeeding is a grifter in the economy. That's why Donald Trump is president. No wonder Gen Z doesn't want to work because they watched millennials work our butts off for absolutely nothing. There is no social contract anymore such that you work really hard and you actually get something. That's why everybody who's succeeding is a grifter.
