The suffering I’m choosing right now is deferred comfort. Almost every dollar I’ve made that isn’t needed for actual living gets pushed back into businesses, people, and the next move. But it’s more than money. It’s time. Seven days a week for years. Deferred dating and fun in my 20s. Deferred family and kids well into my 30s. Deferred almost every version of a normal life that a normal timeline would have given me by now. I spend way less than I earn. I work way more than I have to. That’s the whole strategy. It’s not glamorous. Nobody claps for the times you passed on the upgrade, the vacation, the version of comfort you technically could’ve afforded. Nobody sees the years you spent building instead of living. The suffering is invisible on purpose. I could’ve gone the doctor route. Would’ve made a solid living. But look at the Forbes 400 and you won’t find a single person who got rich actually practicing medicine. The doctors on that list all stopped seeing patients and started building companies. Medicine has a ceiling. Business doesn’t. This is the beauty of business compared to pro sports. Athletes get one window, maybe a decade, then their body forces them out. Business doesn’t work that way. Your best decade in this game is the one most athletes are already retired for. The strategy morphs over time. Live way below your means in your 20s and 30s so you can live however you want in your 50s, 60s, 70s. Now I’m finally getting to the part where I get to actually live it with someone. And leaving something big enough that the next generation skips the hardest part entirely. That’s what generational wealth actually is. Not a big estate. A big head start. I don’t need to be the fastest or the fittest. I just need to be the guy still standing when the market shifts and everyone else needs to sell. That’s the bet.
