Hook
I was halfway through replacing this customer's CV axle, then I put the old axle back in, and walked away. Not because I couldn't do the job. The hardest part was already done. I walked away because the customer suddenly started being disrespectful, acting like we never agreed on the price. Then she got rude and started talking to me crazy and even offered to pay with EBT. At that point, it wasn't about the money anymore. It was about respect. I refuse to let anyone change the agreement and speak to me however they want. After I've already started the work, I take pride in my work and expect to be treated fairly and spoken to like a professional. So I made a decision. I carefully reinstalled the old CV axle, made sure everything was put back together safely. Packed up my tools and left. No yelling, no arguing, just a clear boundary. I'd rather walk away from the job than stay in a situation where I'm being disrespected. But here's the thing, a couple days later, I got a call from her. Her tone was completely different, almost embarrassed. She apologized for how she acted and said she realized she was wrong about the price. This time honoring the original agreement. But I refused to go back not because I'm still mad, but because the disrespect was enough for me to draw the line. Now I'm wondering, mechanics, what would you have done? Finished the repair or walked away? Was I wrong for walking away? Comment below.
