When the disciples were caught in a violent storm on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus stood up and rebuked the wind, "and there was a great calm" (Mark 4:39, KJV). The storm wasn't punishment — it was the setup for a miracle. If your finances feel like that boat right now, you might think God is disciplining you or has forgotten you. Often it's the opposite. Here are five signs that what you're walking through is preparation, not judgment. ## 1. You're Facing a Real Storm Bills are piling up, and it feels like everything that could go wrong financially has gone wrong at once. That's the storm — and in Scripture, storms are rarely a sign of God's absence. They're often the setting He chooses to reveal His power. *"When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee"* (Isaiah 43:2, KJV). ## 2. You're Faithful to God, But It Feels Like He Isn't Listening You tithe, you pray, you try to live with integrity — and still, silence. It's disorienting, because it seems to contradict everything you believe about a faithful God. But faithfulness is never wasted, even when the answer is delayed rather than denied. *"But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped"* (Psalm 73:2, KJV) — even the psalmist admitted how close he came to giving up before he understood God's timing. ## 3. You're Serving God Again, But You Don't See the Results Yet Maybe you've recommitted your finances to Him, started giving again, started trusting Him with decisions you used to make alone — and yet nothing visible has changed. That gap between obedience and outcome is where faith gets built, not disproven. *"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not"* (Galatians 6:9, KJV). ## 4. It Feels Like Everyone Around You Has Turned Away Financial pressure has a way of exposing who stays and who disappears. Friends stop calling, family gets distant, and you feel like you're carrying it alone. That isolation is painful — but it isn't new, and it isn't final. *"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up"* (Psalm 27:10, KJV). ## 5. You Keep Praying, But It Feels Like Nothing Is Happening You've prayed about this more times than you can count, and some days it feels like your words hit the ceiling. This is often the last stretch before the breakthrough — the place where trust gets refined into something unshakable. *"For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry"* (Habakkuk 2:3, KJV). --- No matter how heavy things feel right now, Jesus is not far from you. Looking back over my own life, there were seasons that felt unbearable — and every time, I could see afterward that He never actually left. If you haven't yet, invite Him into this season, not just your circumstances. Let Him speak peace over your storm the way He spoke peace over the sea — and stay close to Him after the breakthrough comes, too.
