What nobody tells you when you start making money online as a content creator. My credentials are that I was audited in 2024. I think one of the main things that people forget is that when you make money from brand deals, it's on you to set aside a portion for taxes. When that money hits your bank account, it's really easy to see those numbers and get excited and think, look at all this money I have. But you should really be putting aside at least 20% so that you're prepared when it comes time for taxes, because the government isn't taking regular taxes out of your paycheck like they would in a normal 9 to 5 job. The benefit of being self-employed is that you have a lot of flexibility when it comes to write offs. A write off is an expense that you can deduct from your revenue, so that way you are subject to less tax overall. For example, because I'm a content creator, I can write off my iPhone. This doesn't mean that the iPhone's free, but it does mean a percentage of the total cost of the iPhone can be deducted against my total revenue for the year, therefore lowering my net income, which is revenue minus expenses, making the total amount of tax I have to pay less. Write offs are gonna be your best friend. So you really wanna make sure you're keeping good records throughout the year, keeping track of all of your receipts and keeping them nice and organized, so that when you share them with your accountant, he or she can get you the best results possible for your tax return. Some things I've written off in the past are nail appointments, hair appointments, clothing, Ubers and plane tickets can write off those things. However, you need to have the support to back it up. Save your event invites, save the briefs that brands send you, save the contracts that is literally what saved me almost $50,000. It took me a couple months to prepare all of the evidence that was required from the CRA. And that's when I realized there's really no good financial or business management tools for influencers, so I built one. With this platform that I'm building, you will be able to store every single contract, keep track of all of your brand deals, store your receipts, be able to link your receipts to certain brand deals, track your revenue, and just be extremely prepared and on top of your finances, because I think it is really important and nothing is worse than feeling like you don't have control over your own finances. So if this sounds like something you could benefit from, because I know I sure as hell could, sign up for the waitlist and be one of the first to know when CreatorOffice launches.
