THE GUITARIST WHO RELEASED 700 ALBUMS AND NOBODY KNOWS HIS FACE he performs in a blank white mask with a literal KFC bucket on his head, and he's done it for over 30 years. almost nobody has seen his face. his name is Buckethead, and behind the mask is one of the most technically insane guitarists alive. the numbers don't feel real. he's put out over 700 releases. in 2014 alone he dropped a new album roughly every six days, all year long. most artists make a dozen records in a lifetime. he makes that in a couple of months. and he can actually play. we're talking blistering shred, sweep picking, tapping, then switching to gentle ambient and bluegrass on the same day. he studied under Paul Gilbert, and for four years he was the lead guitarist in Guns N' Roses, playing on Chinese Democracy. the mask came from watching Halloween 4 in 1988. he bought a blank michael myers mask, ate some KFC that night, put the bucket on his head, looked in the mirror and went, that's Buckethead. a whole legend, from a horror movie and a bucket of chicken.
