Not a job hopper...here's why

I promise I'm not a job hopper. But every single time I left a toxic job, it was because some woman in power couldn't stop making the workplace unbearable. It's never because I hated the work. It's always because of an insecure boss who felt threatened or a woman with a superiority complex who somehow decided I was the problem. And here's what nobody wants to say out loud. Some of it is affinity bias. Some women only lift other women who remind her of herself. The ones who went to the right schools or the ones who talk a certain way. The ones who fit the image she has of who belongs in the room. And if you don't match that image, watch out. She will make your life small until the very moment you leave. The way some people treat other women at work really should be studied, because we've been told our entire lives that a woman in charge always makes things better. And yes, sometimes it does. But sometimes she becomes the exact thing that she once survived. Anyway, that was years ago I left. I've been writing and building my leadership and reinvention practice ever since. But seriously, for me, the exit was the answer.
