I'm a general music teacher with over 15 years experience in the classroom and here are some of my general music slash music classroom hot takes. Or just things that I believe that I'm sure other people believe too. I don't believe in teaching to one specific pedagogy. I think it's really important that the children received a well rounded education. So I use a wide variety of Orff, Kodaly, Dalcroze, all sorts of different curriculum in my classroom. I think it's really important that we have a good dose of technology, but then also non-technological work within the classroom. But music can be taught through technology just as well as in other classrooms. Concerts are not the most important thing in my classroom. I put them on because it's kind of an expectation, but all our learning and fun happens outside of a concert. Music is an academic subject. It's not just there to be fun and to get out of the regular classroom. I make them learn about music and about other things and I think they have fun doing it.
