I don't know what possessed me to book a solo trip to Senegal but this is how day one went. I landed in Dakar and by the time I got to my hotel it was 3 AM. I believe I was absolutely knackered. The best believe I was not going to be wasting my time sleeping because I am here to see and experience things. The first stop as always when I land in Africa is to find a hairdresser and get my hair re-twisted. My last re-twist was about 12 weeks ago, so it was definitely time to get it done. I found this hair salon on Instagram and I messaged them to book an appointment but unfortunately, they don't take appointments. But she told me that the only work on walk-in basis. I was not going to be waiting for hours. I got there at 12 o'clock and within the next two hours, they were done with my hair. They did so well with my hair and now I am starving and I'm looking for thieb. Bon thieb. Je veux te retrouver si le thieb n'est pas bon. They told me to go to Marche Keymel if I'm looking for authentic thieb. Once I got there, I couldn't find the street sellers because they are actually hidden in the middle of the market. Thankfully, I met someone who recommended this lady to me. He said he eats here every single day. He called the lady to come and get me from where I was. He was so convinced about how good the thieb was going to be. He was like, if you don't like it, you don't have to pay for it. I was actually looking for the red thieb but the lady only had white thieb and that also tasted really, really good. Listen, if you want to eat really good food and authentic thieb, you just have to go to the mamas of the market. Once I was done eating and enjoying myself, I went about the market to do a little bit of shopping before going for a walk on the beach. Now it's dinner time and I'm hungry. I'm about to go get the best thieb in town. It's my first time trying to be in Dakar. I'll just be sat here people watching for the last hour. I'm loving it. My views are beautiful, everybody's doing some sort of running sport. Everybody's so romantic here. Like I was on the beach watching the sunset and there were so many couples just sat there and I was like, "Oh, love love." Call my taxi. I'm waiting for my taxi to go get some thieb because that's actually what I want to eat for dinner. Let's go get some thieb. After tonight, taking a walk on the beach in the evening became my favorite thing to do. My taxi arrived and before we knew it, we got to the Dibiterie Sougoufara Chez Nar. Now, this was not the actual location that I was going for initially, but because this was my first time, I just went with what the taxi driver was saying. He dropped me at this location. I got in there, they had different types of cuts. So I went for a mixed. And while they were grilling my meat, I went over to the mango sellers to grab some mangoes for dessert. And you guys, I just knew this was going to taste delicious. While they were grilling my meat, I went over to the mango sellers to grab some mangoes for dessert. After a few minutes, the DB was secured and we went back to the hotel to absolutely demolish this. Honestly, I was glad the taxi driver dropped me here because this was the best thing ever. This DB said the standard for the rest of the trip. It was so good. And that's how day one went.
