When people ask, I used to say that I'm Cambodian.

When people ask, I used to say that I'm Cambodian. But now I think I should start saying that I'm Chinese. Or I'm not really sure. Because at my grandmother's funeral after party, we were talking about how she spoke Chinese. And I talked to my dad about it and I was like, yeah, because she's Chinese, but granddad was Cambodian, right? Because I thought we were half Chinese, half Cambodian because of my dad being half and then my mom also being half. So that would make me half and half too, just in a weird split way. And then he said, no, granddad was Chinese. And I was like, what? And he said, we're Chinese, but we're Cambodian. And I was like, huh? And I was like, Dad, by blood, what are we? He said, Chinese. But don't worry about that. We're Cambodian. And I was like, what? So I went and I bought a DNA test and I found out that I'm 75% Chinese, 15% Vietnamese, and 11% Southeast Asian, not even specifically Cambodian. So, yeah, that makes a lot of sense because growing up, I would look at Chinese people and I would think, I don't look like them. And I would look at Cambodian people and I would think, I really don't look like them. And I just chalked it up to being half and half, like, you know, ambiguously Asian. But now, now do I just start telling people I'm Chinese? Or do I tell them I'm Cambodian? I've been to Cambodia twice and I've never been to China once. We don't speak Chinese at home. And I speak more Vietnamese than I do Khmer, but I don't know.
