the asian american accent

If you lined up 10 people in front of me and only one of them was Asian American, I can tell you exactly which one that is. A lot of people are talking about the Asian American accent, but I finally know what distinguishes an Asian American accent. There's a couple characteristics. I think the first one is they over-enunciate their words. So, you know like computer science TAs in college, because I went to UC Berkeley, they just over-enunciate every single word and they all talk to the exact same. They would be like, so this is the endpoint that you are going to be accessing. Another characteristic I notice is we tend to end things that are meant to be a statement with a question mark. Like a lot of Asians just tend to say everything like a question. So they'd be like, oh, I'm going to get lunch today and then I'm going to go to the bank and then get my new credit card. I think they call it like a staccato sentence because it's kind of choppy. So I think when you combine more pauses in between words and very precise enunciation, that's what gets you the Asian American accent. I'm curious if I have it too, because it's hard to diagnose yourself. I was just in the Bay for so long for college that it was so normal to me because I was only surrounded by Asian people. But since moving out, I definitely notice it more.
