College student moving into a dorm. Here are some necessities you're gonna want to grab before moving in. Personally, I loved having a Brita because you don't know what kind of filtering system your school is gonna have. We, for the love of God, if there's anything you listen to, get the shower shoes. Whether you're sharing a shower with one roommate or you're sharing it with your entire dorm, you don't want to go out there with just bare feet. They have $5 plastic caddies. I like these because they have draining holes at the bottom, but I also had one of these mesh ones. I really love being neat, so I found having a cordless vacuum was really worth it. I used it literally every week, if not every day. Command strips came out with some fun new colors, so that's great. If you're hanging anything heavy than like a paper poster, just go for the ones that can handle like the heavier things. I really loved having a hook specifically to hang in my dorm so that way I had somewhere to always hang up my towel. I had hooks similar to this and these that were great to keep right by your door so you never forget your keys. Be wary, do not get any kind of wallpaper or anything that your dorm does not allow it. If the dorm does not allow it, it is not worth getting and then having to pay the deposit back. I will say, some people think it's a fire safety hazard, so you have to get a surge protector. Make sure that's the one that you have for an extension cord. I did always love having a night light, especially because it's a new space until you get used to it. You don't want to stub your toe in the middle of the night. So getting a night light can be a very useful thing. So I recommend getting some sort of safety item, whether that's pepper spray or one of those little birdies where it makes the alarm sound. I love having a bed riser. Even if you don't need them, they just add so much extra room to put things under your bed. Send this to someone who is going to college so they don't forget things on their checklist.
