You spent HOW MUCH on fabric and sewed it without washing it first!?!?

Apparently not everyone washes their fabric before they sew it. I genuinely had no idea. So here's how I do it and why. But a quick disclaimer, I'm not an expert. This is just what works for me after a lot of trial and error. I sort by colors, throw it in the washer on quick wash and cold water. But the key part here is to spin it on low. A high spin is what twists everything into a rope and creates those wrinkles. The second is to get it out the second the cycle ends. Do not let it sit in there. Make sure it isn't twisted going into the dryer. Then dry on medium and check every five minutes or so to shake out anything that's starting to get bunched up. It's unhinged. I know, but it saves me so much pressing later. Now for the why. I have no idea what this fabric has been through before it got to me. So I want it clean. Mine's almost always 100% cotton, so it's going to shrink. And I'd rather it shrink now than after I've cut and sewn it. This is how I keep my sizing consistent. So tell me whether you do this or I'm all steps, or tell me I'm insane for doing all these extra steps.
