Difficulty Level: 1156 once you see this pattern you'll start winning a lot more chess games this is one of my favorites and will completely change the way you respond when you're under attack so the black Queen has just gone to d5 and is attacking our Queen but what you have to remember is that when their Queen's attacking your Queen your Queen is attacking their Queen and who is actually defending their Queen well it's the rook on d8 but the rook on d8 is also doing another job which is protecting the King from back rank checkmate so if we can distract the rook from protecting the Queen then we might be able to win her the only caveat here is that it will have to be a forcing move because if we just try and distract the rook and hope it moves out the way we're probably gonna lose our Queen in the meantime so here when we look for our checks captures and threats there is only one check rook to Re8 this attacks the King and threatens the rook black can just take it but this is exactly what we want now the rook has been distracted away from the Queen and we get to win it this is one of hundreds of patterns that can transform your chess so make sure to follow along so you don't miss the next one
