I've been seeing a lot of these residency pay transparency videos. I just wanted to share mine because not all programs and not all specialties are created equal. A little background, I match dermatology, but the first year is an intern year and I match into a transitional year program. A transitional year versus a prelim year usually means a lighter schedule, more elective, more flexibility in your schedule. I started on an elective which was anesthetics this month and apparently it was also just a really slow hour month. An average I worked like three or four hours a day. No weekends, no call, no nights. My program pays by weekly, so my first paycheck came out to be $2,059.25. I worked a total of 41 hours over two weeks, which means my hourly pay was about $50 an hour. Granted, this was probably the slowest month I will have all year. I will definitely be making up some hours because I'm starting in patient I am next month. But let this be your sign to choose your specialty and choose your presidency program very carefully.
