Moonlighting and being a fourth year resident is nice because what do you mean? I woke up at noon today. Woke up, saw text on my phone asking if I would be available to moonlight. Me? For $180 an hour? Me? Yes, of course. I will pop in the shower and throw on this little stethoscope and show up to work. How great is that? So happy. I love being a doctor and I especially love being a doctor at the place that I moonlight. So me before my 9 hour shift in the emergency department. And I'm really excited. The light at the end of medical training initially comes in the form of moonlighting as a resident doctor. To all medical students who are going through their program lists: ASK ABOUT MOONLIGHTING! My program just requires good academic standing, otherwise you can moonlight as a PGY3-4. Some places have a certain ITE threshold you have to meet before being allowed to moonlight. Some residencies don’t even allow it! Ask questions. It’s been one of the greatest things (praise God) that I’ve added to my schedule. 🤍🫶 Warning: the $180 is untaxed so be careful spending your moonlighting money without setting aside the cost you’ll have to pay in taxes (thousands of dollars!) #medschool #doctor #residency #medicalstudent #fyp
