Some non-vegans love to say, "The problem isn't me and dairy, it's the factory, it's the conditions that these animals are under, telling people to go vegan or reduce their meat and dairy consumption, we need to farms accountable. We need to demand better conditions for the animals. Support your local farmers and ranchers. Buy "ethically sourced" meat." Factory farms exist because of the huge global demand for meat and dairy. We've all heard demand before. We understand this concept for literally everything else on planet Earth, but suddenly, to meat and dairy, we wanna pretend that it doesn't apply. Food and Agriculture Organization, over 92 billion land animals are bred and slaughtered every single year in the global food system. Back in 2022, 83 billion land animals. The number of land animals slaughtered every year for has risen for the past 60 years, to continue to grow. We kill over *1-2 trillion a trillion fish for commercial consumption. So every year, for both land and sea animals, we kill nearly 2 trillion animals for consumption to feed a population of 8 billion people. That's not a small farm number. This is industrial scale. That is the amount of animals it takes every single year global demand for meat and dairy. Now let's talk about land use. Around 75-80% of the world's agricultural land is used for livestock: growing the crops to feed them, for grazing. Research shows that if the world plant-based diet, we can cut the global agricultural land use by 75%. Not 75% of livestock land, 75% of the global agricultural land. About regenerative farming, and local farmers yeah, they still need enormous amounts of land and water to raise animals. It takes nearly 2,000 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef. So switching over to local or "ethical farming" doesn't change that number. Switching to local, "ethical farmers," regenerative farming will use even grass-fed and pasture-raised cattle grow slower and they take longer to reach "slaughter weight." So to produce the same amount of beef, you would need more animals raised over more time, which means more land, not less. Needs to eat, drink, and grow, no matter how nice the farm looks or how animals have. We are growing enough plants to feed the entire world, those crops don't go to people, they go to the animals. Every time you run a plant through an animal before the human eats the animal, of the calories in that process. So instead of feeding a plant directly to a human, to an animal, waiting for them to "slaughter weight," and then we kill them, eat the animal, getting back a fraction of the calories that we started off with. This is absolutely inefficient and wasteful. Telling people locally-sourced, ethically sourced farmers is not a real solution. First of all, access to these "local, ethical farmers and ranchers," expensive, and if every single non-vegan just switches over to those, out of land, out of animals, and you will run out of water. Again, we breed 92 billion land animals, we kill over a trillion fish every year to meet the global demand. There's 8 billion people on the planet. That's how much and dairy. United States by itself, kill 10 billion land animals, and our population is around 342 million people. Factory farms and the horrific conditions are under only exist to meet the global demand for meat and dairy because y'all eat every single day. *pretend to care GET TO PRETEND about the conditions pigs, and chickens, and feel bad for them stand in their poop and being crammed into small places, and being injected with hormones and antibiotics and having their beaks cut off while you eat them every single day. Those are your choices fueling that system, just eat plant-based, or just reduce your meat and dairy consumption. Mention, dairy industry receives billions of dollars in subsidies from paid by our taxes, what they're doing. So no amount of shaking our fists in this performative activism by saying "We need to change that. They're not gonna why would they? Why would they lose that profit? Why we "annoying vegans" tell people go vegan, and dairy consumption. This is why vegans protest outside of factory farms. This is why factory farms, footage of these horrible conditions that look away from you guys pretend to care about these animals, stop you from picking up the hamburger veggie burger. These vegans are also infiltrating and rescuing animals from animal testing sites, facing decades of prison time. Vegans educate the masses, and y'all just wanna call us "annoying" cognitive dissonance. The one piece of this that we actually have control of, individually, right now, is demand. One vegan saves around 200 animals per year, simply by not eating them. Supply and demand. It is the same logic as boycotting: the most direct, effective thing a person can do. I'm not even the whole discussion that there is as "ethical farms," ethical about unnecessarily breeding, exploiting, and killing animals when they wanna live, and we don't have to do that because we have plant-based options, all raised on speciesism. We're all raised animals as pets, loved ones, you know, families, and others as food, products, entertainment, so I can't view a cow, pig, and a chicken with the same moral consideration that you give cat, bunny rabbit, hamster, but I can tell you maybe reduce your meat and dairy consumption for the sake of our planet. About land use, about water waste, if you care about the survival of our generation, if you care about health, reduce your meat and dairy consumption. Maybe go vegan. And anyone telling you that you reducing that consumption, you going vegan "does nothing," you. The real lie is thinking that factory farms are going to hold themselves accountable, change the conditions of these animals, stop cutting down the Amazon rainforest, and stop wasting
