Why it worked

The video effectively leverages a contrarian and provocative stance to challenge deeply ingrained societal beliefs about diet, framing the discomfort around veganism as a personal cognitive dissonance rather than a valid concern. This approach is likely to generate strong engagement through debate and discussion.

Summary

The speaker argues that concerns about vegan children stem from cognitive dissonance, not genuine health worries. They explain that historical and scientific evidence supports the healthiness of plant-based diets across all life stages, contrasting this with the practices of modern animal agriculture and its negative health and environmental impacts. The video challenges the viewer to consider why the existence of vegan children is bothersome if they don't care about these broader issues.

Structure

1Introduction: Vegan children don't concern you due to health worries, but cognitive dissonance.
2Evidence for plant-based diets: Scientific consensus and historical examples.
3Critique of animal agriculture: Colonial roots, environmental destruction, and health risks.
4Challenging the status quo: The manufactured nature of current food habits.
5The core question: Why does the existence of vegan children bother you if you disregard the evidence?

VEGAN ADULTS RAISING VEGAN CHILDREN DOESN'T CONCERN YOU BECAUSE YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT THE CHILD'S HEALTH. WE KNOW, AND HAVE KNOWN FOR DECADES, THAT A WELL-PLANNED, PLANT-BASED DIET IS HEALTHY AT ALL STAGES OF LIFE. THE POSITION OF DIETETIC AND MEDICAL BODIES ACROSS THE GLOBE, BACKED BY THOUSANDS OF PROFESSIONALS AND PEER-REVIEWED RESEARCH. SO VEGAN ADULTS RAISING VEGAN CHILDREN DOESN'T CONCERN YOU BECAUSE YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT THE CHILD'S HEALTH, IT CONCERNS YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE COGNITIVE DISSONANCE. LIFE, MY WHOLE LIFE, OF PEOPLE'S LIVES, WE WERE TAUGHT TO EAT MEAT FOR PROTEIN MILK FOR STRONG BONES. TO SEE ANIMALS AS FOOD, AS COMMODITIES. THINGS THAT EXIST FOR OUR CONSUMPTION, FOR OUR ENTERTAINMENT. AND IF YOU'RE NO MATTER WHAT RELIGION YOU FOLLOW, THAT YOUR CREATOR CREATED ANIMALS FOR US. WHAT YOU WEREN'T IS THAT THERE ARE CULTURES AND CIVILIZATIONS THAT HAVE THRIVED FOR GENERATIONS WERE MOSTLY OR ENTIRELY PLANT-BASED. YOU WEREN'T TAUGHT THAT PLANT-BASED EATING HAS EXISTED FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS. YOU WEREN'T TAUGHT THAT TODAY'S ANIMAL AGRICULTURE, FACTORY FARMING, INDUSTRIAL-SCALE SLAUGHTER, HAS COLONIAL ROOTS OF INDIGENOUS LANDS REPLACEMENT OF INDIGENOUS FOODWAYS WITH EUROPEAN LIVESTOCK SYSTEMS. ANIMAL AGRICULTURE INFLICTS CONDITIONS ON LIVING, SENTIENT BEINGS THAT YOU'D NEVER ACCEPT IF YOU SAW IT IN PERSON. YOU WEREN'T TAUGHT THAT THE MEAT YOU EAT COMES OR JUVENILES OF THOSE SPECIES. Average lifespan of cow is 15-20 years old, and the oldest cow ever documented was 48 years and 9 months old! COWS ARE TYPICALLY SLAUGHTERED AT AROUND 18 MONTHS OLD, CHICKENS AT SIX TO SEVEN WEEKS OLD, AND PIGS AT FIVE TO SIX MONTHS OLD. YOU WEREN'T TAUGHT THAT FEEDING ANIMAL PRODUCTS TO 8 BILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE IS DRIVING ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION AT A SCALE THE PLANET CAN'T SUSTAIN. AND YOU WEREN'T TAUGHT THAT MEAT AND DAIRY CONSUMPTION IS LINKED TO ELEVATED RATES OF DIABETES, HYPERTENSION, HEART DISEASE, AND OBESITY. SO UNLESS YOUR STANCE IS REJECTING PEER-REVIEWED SCIENCE, UNLESS YOU ARE ANTI-SCIENCE THAT ANTI-VAXXERS ARE WHEN THEY REJECT PEER-REVIEWED SCIENCE ON VACCINES, VEGAN CHILDREN MAKE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE THEY ARE LIVING PROOF THAT EVERYTHING THAT YOU THAT WAS NECESSARY, WASN'T. THE STORY YOU BUILT YOUR HABITS ON WAS MANUFACTURED. PERHAPS WHAT YOU'RE FEELING IS GUILT. BUT HERE'S THE THING, THAT ACTUALLY MATTERS TO YOU, IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT THE HEALTH, ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF ANIMAL AGRICULTURE, IF YOU WANNA AND DAIRY BECAUSE IT TASTES GOOD AND BECAUSE IT'S MORE CONVENIENT, THEN WHY DOES THE EXISTENCE OF VEGAN CHILDREN BOTHER YOU? YOU CAN'T SAY OF THE CHILD, BECAUSE SCIENCE SHOWS THAT A WELL-PLANNED, PLANT-BASED DIET IS HEALTHY FOR ALL STAGES OF LIFE. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF VEGANS AROUND THE WORLD, MYSELF INCLUDED, THAT ARE PROOF THAT YOU CAN BE HEALTHY, YOU CAN SURVIVE AND THRIVE ON A VEGAN DIET. SO WHY DOES IT BOTHER YOU?

Vegan adults raising vegan children doesn't concern you because you're worried about the child's health. We know, and have known for decades, that a well-planned, plant-based diet is healthy at all stages of life. The position of dietetic and medical bodies across the globe, backed by thousands of professionals and peer-reviewed research. So vegan adults raising vegan children doesn't concern you because you're worried about the child's health, it concerns you because you have cognitive dissonance. Life, my whole life, of people's lives, we were taught to eat meat for protein, milk for strong bones. To see animals as food, as commodities. Things that exist for our consumption, for our entertainment. And if you're, no matter what religion you follow, that your creator created animals for us. What you weren't taught is that there are cultures and civilizations that have thrived for generations, were mostly or entirely plant-based. You weren't taught that plant-based eating has existed for thousands of years. You weren't taught that today's animal agriculture, factory farming, industrial-scale slaughter, has colonial roots of indigenous lands, replacement of indigenous foodways with European livestock systems. Animal agriculture inflicts conditions on living, sentient beings that you'd never accept if you saw it in person. You weren't taught that the meat you eat comes from the babies or juveniles of those species. Cows are typically slaughtered at around 18 months old. Chickens at six to seven weeks old. And pigs at five to six months old. You weren't taught that feeding animal products to 8 billion people worldwide is driving environmental destruction at a scale the planet can't sustain. And you weren't taught that meat and dairy consumption is linked to elevated rates of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and obesity. So unless your stance is rejecting peer-reviewed science, unless you are anti-science, that anti-vaxxers are when they reject peer-reviewed science on vaccines, vegan children make you uncomfortable because they are living proof that everything that you that was necessary, wasn't.
