They're such a part of the community. The reason that L is in LGB to is because lesbians played such a big role during the AIDS epidemic in the 80s. Because lesbians were some of the only people that were going and caring for these men dying because a lot of people were afraid to touch near them. All that work, the L got beginning of the acronym to show respect for lesbians. Lesbians have trail blazed the way for women to get into lots of careers because lesbians were some of the first to be people who needed to provide for themselves. They did not have a man in the house so they had to go into work, to push themselves into jobs that maybe women weren't in before and opened the door for other able to go into those positions. Here's one that will blow your mind. Lesbians can acknowledge the attractiveness of a man without being attracted to him. And that really blows some people's minds.
