Welcome back to our kitchen renovation. We're restoring our 1940s kitchen and after months of waiting, we finally got our stove. And since restoring the cabinetry part of this project by original handles. They're so cool and they polished up so nicely in our designated DIY crock pot, which is really gross looking. So sorry you had to see that. And we've been living for months with no countertops, mostly because we're procrastinating something like install. But we finally did it. We purchased a few of these unfinished butcher block pieces from Menards in various sizes and cut them to the exact dimensions we needed in the garage with a circular saw. We also purchased the matching backsplash pieces and cut those down as well. All in all, these countertops cost us less than $500. We have some leftovers from projects. Cody then fastened the countertops to the metal cabinet frames. If you guys like this kind of stuff, we have a more detailed video on our YouTube channel of this process. And after that, we decided to stain the butcher block with Watco oil mixed with the hazelnut color to create a medium warm tone that we liked better. This finish is food safe, so we can actually chop food to our heart's desires on these countertops. The backsplash part was really easy. Cody just used construction adhesive and we even ran it behind the stove to kind of give it a built-in look. We're so excited. Next, we're reglazing our sink. So stay tuned for that.
