Scam Warning Türkiye

Beware of this massive scam in Turkey which you've probably fallen for before if you've been previously. When shopping in Turkey, paying in Euros or British Pounds technically means you're being scammed and I'll explain why. But first, make sure you if you're in you see everything priced in either Euros or Pounds, is already doing something wrong. Turkish government requires all shops to advertise prices in Turkish Lira. Shops in Turkey, you pay in either British Pounds or Euros because it means it to the bank to be exchanged into Turkish Lira, they're going to get more money. The biggest scam is when they go to give you change because nearly every single time they will give you change back in Turkish Lira, where they'll skim more off the top. And then if you haggle something in either British Pounds or Euros, and then you by card. This is where it gets worse, card machine they can only charge you in Turkish Lira, so therefore they're going to put a different amount in Turkish Lira because again, they're to know the exchange rate. In summary, to avoid paying more than you should unknowingly, always pay in Turkish Lira, either in cash or agree price in Turkish Lira to pay by card.
