Can you help me make sense of this hypocrisy? So, the people of British Columbia have made it very clear that they want to protect the remaining slivers of old growth forests that remains in the province, and the BC government agreed with the people it’s meant to serve, and promised to protect olgrtowth forests and follow the 14 recommendations set out by an independent panel on how to transition the forest industry to a more sustainable, ecologically, and economically sound one. But then you have BC timber sales, a company that is responsible for auctioning off the rights to log the last of these old growth forests like this gorgeous stand I’m in right here, to the logging companies so they can be clearcut logged for privatized profits that don’t go back to the lands or communities that depend on these forests. While BCTS is technically an independent organisation, it just so happens to be owned by the Ministry of Forests, part of the provincial government. So even though the government said it wants to protect old growth forest on behalf of over 90% of British columbians who demanded that, BCTS still operates like a business, whose key motive is to generate profit for their shareholders, which, again, is the government, and they do this by auctioning off timber licenses to log the last of these old growth forests that the government says it wants to protect, in order to generate money for…the government. ...does that make any sense? This all begs to question - who does the BC Government care about more - the wants and needs of the people it was solely created to serve, or the logging companies still trying to make a buck off destroying the last of our lands and forests for privatized profits? Give David Eby a shout at 250-387-1715 and tell him to get his priorities straight - protect the last of our old growth forests and follow through on the 14 recommendations that he and his government have already committed to, to create an economically and ecologically sustainable forest industry and a bright future for us all amongst these lands we all share and depend on. #oldgrowth #forest #logging #bc #climate #hypocrisy #nature #drama
