BTS is calling out the Grammys and their reason is a good one. Here's everything we know. BTS made headlines when all seven group members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook all posted the same on their individual within minutes of each other. The message being that they are not submitting for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards. The group stated that they want their music to be heard and loved for not divided by region or language. What does this all mean? The timing so important. Right now is BTS's comeback to the music industry. Just finished their mandatory military and dropped their fifth album, Arirang in March of 2026. No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the charts in 23 countries, the UK, Germany, Japan, all of them. So this move to take a step back from the Grammys. Isn't because they're struggling. They're making a lot of noise. Their game. So what actually triggered this? Well, in June, the Recording Academy quietly rolled out five new Grammy categories, including one called Best Asian Pop Music Performance. And the catch print for this requires meaningful use of an Asian language to qualify. So on paper, it sounds inclusive. But here's the plot twist. BTS's massive English language hit, 'Swim', which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, wouldn't even qualify for that category. So reading BTS's statement about region or language as out of that and of the and the BTS Army are not rightfully so. One fan told CNN that it feels like the category was built BTS, bigger, more prestigious categories, basically sidelining Asian, own lane. And others are calling it musical segregation. However, it is important to note, the Grammys have done region-specific categories before they've had Best Latin Jazz Album, Best African Music performance, and others. And those categories already exist every year. So the Academy's defense is basically, we've always done this, which is a face to major with worldwide multi-language appeal like BTS. And we have with BTS now joining a pretty exclusive club of who've called out the Grammys directly. Back in 2021, the Weeknd had zero nominations, one of his career was still sitting in the Billboard top 10 a year after release and being the most streamed song on Spotify of all time. The Weeknd then told The New York Times that he'd stop letting his label to the Grammys, pointing directly at the Academy's secret nomination committees. The Grammys then tried to reconcile with him by having him 2025 ceremony, but then snubbed his album. Hurry up tomorrow with another zero nominations. And so the accusations of corruption, big artists having big years getting snubbed anyway. Gonna boycott the Grammys. Room for Asian, but BTS is saying that that room feels like a completely separate room. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments and follow me to date on all things pop culture.
