I ain't paying for business class but I almost always fly business class.

I ain't paying for business class but I almost always fly business class. And they're always like, why am I not getting upgraded into business class? Like, where are my upgrades? I get upgraded on domestic flights into business class nine times out of ten. Nine times out of ten, we are flying in business, and I'm not paying for it domestically. International, whole other story. That's a whole other conversation of hacks that I can give you. Here's how you get upgraded relatively easily, the majority of the time. Two things you need. One, you have to have status on the airline for this to work. If you don't have status, what kind of heathen are you? Stop picking the cheapest flights, build status with an airline, it is very much worth it. I have executive platinum on American or OneWorld, which is the highest tier you can have before like concierge key. The other thing you need is just a tiny bit of flexibility. Doesn't have to be a crazy amount. I'm not talking like one or two days, I'm talking like just a couple of hours of flexibility in your itinerary. So, tomorrow I'm flying to New York. I looked at my check-in, and went to go check in, I noticed my upgrade had not been confirmed yet. And I was like, oh no, no, no. We are not flying from LAX to JFK in economy. I'm also not paying for the upgrade because it's like a $2,500 upgrade. So, I looked at the flight, and I went onto the the AA website. So I went onto American's website, and I looked to see how many seats in business class were available. The reason why I had not been upgraded yet is because there's only one seat in business class free. Not a great shot. Even though I have the highest tier status, if a pilot or a pilot's wife decides to book on standby, or another executive platinum member who's had status a little bit longer than me, like those are just odds that I'm not really willing to take. I really do not want to fly economy tomorrow. Because I have a very intense work trip ahead of me. Would really love the business class seat. So, I went back to the search function on AA, I looked at all the flights tomorrow morning, and I looked at ones that were two hours earlier, one hour earlier, one hour later, and two hours later. On the flights that were two hours later, there were between six and seven open business class seats. So, I booked myself on a flight that was two hours later, where I think there was six open business class seats, and I changed my seat, or I changed my flight. I think it was like an $18 difference in fare. It was like very nominal. Changed my flight, checked in again into my new flight, which was a mere two hours later. One hour after I checked in, what comes through but my upgrade. It's it's really, again, you need status, and you need a tiny bit of flexibility. All you got to do is see where there's open business class seats, you'll get upgraded nine times out of ten.
