Here's some tips for those who're going into college as someone who's a college Sophomore. 1. Don't Skip! do NOT skip your classes unless you're sick or have some kind of emergency. I randomly started skipping my classes for two months straight because in my mind, there was no need to be there when all I did was fiddle with my pen. Even if the classes are boring and seem absolutely pointless, I strongly advise to still go. Not showing up looks bad on you, your attendance, and can strongly affect your grade. You can pick up the smallest details in your classes that can be most important to your work. and I know it's hard not to skip, but believe me when I say showing up does matter. 2. MacBooks X when getting a laptop, it's suggested to not get a MacBook. There is nothing wrong if you do get a MacBook or have one, but they can be difficult to use with some of the software required for certain classes. I bought a MacBook thinking it'd be easier on me since I have an iPhone, but honestly it made it more difficult. Usually, you're required to work mostly with Microsoft applications. and these applications are setup differently on MacBooks, and also have different ways to do commands on them. I used my roommates Chromebook a lot for my work because my MacBook wouldn't work well with the Microsoft assignments. I strongly recommend getting a Chromebook or any kind of brand that is friendly with most software so you don't have any issues. 3. Be Early! "being early is on time, and being on time is late". Most professors expect you to be in class a bit early so they can start class right on the dot. They will not wait for you before they start, nor will they stop class or catch you up if you're late. If you live on campus, I recommend leaving at least 20 minutes early. My classes were never too far, so I'd leave 20 minutes early and make it with 10 minutes to spare. If you live off campus, I'd leave an hour early. Parking on campus is the worst fight you will ever encounter. Getting there an hour early gives you time to find a spot, along with time to get to your class without worrying about being late. 4. Study Days! plan out work/ study days. If you have a lot of credit hours, assignments can pile up fast in the blink of an eye. Planning days to go out and study or work sounds like a dread or a waste, but this had me staying on top of my work and is super helpful. I did a few days a week for a couple hours, so I wasn't overworked but still had time to go have fun. 5. Use Calendars! calendars, they are a lifesaver to not miss anything. I use a paper calendar as well as Google calendar. Having a calendar helped me keep track of my assignments, classes, job schedule, meetings, etc. It sounds like such an old person thing, but genuinely, I would have missed so much without having a calendar. They're there for a reason, use them. 6. Watch Deadlines! turn your work in on time. Unless you get a nice professor, they will never except late work unless there's a certain emergency or technical issues. They also don't do make up work. You get one chance on an assignment and that's it. So always try to watch for deadlines! 7. Partying X I don't recommend partying. I know college is a new experience and people like to drink and party, but it's not worth it. Honestly, they hold you back from what you're there for, and hard to resist once you start going to them. My suite mates had partied from move in day to move out day, and always said they struggled at being behind sometimes because all they cared about was partying. You can have fun and party if you want, but don't let it hold you back from your work. 8. Don't Stress! college is very different from highschool. It is a new experience completely different from highschool, and that can be scary for a lot of people. which it's okay to be scared, but it's not so bad. No one bothers you at all really. it can be refreshing. You find most people on campus with headphones in or studying alone. No one cares or pays attention to you, they're all in their own world and couldn't care less what you're doing. Just be yourself! If there's any other tips or questions you guys have, I'll happily reply or make another part of this!
