The following are human achievements that worked so well nobody celebrated it. 1) Anaesthesia. 200 years ago, if you had to get your leg amputated, all you had was a leather strap to tie you down, a bottle of whiskey or something to bite on. That's all you had. Amputations were grim, brutal, gory, disturbing, and all painful. Extremely painful. When modern anesthesia became introduced, it practically transformed medicine forever, allowing for complex and otherwise very deadly operations with minimal pain whatsoever. The breakthrough was so immediate and so profound, nobody celebrated it. The next one is a 3-point seatbelt. It was invented by Niels Bolin, a Swedish engineer. Before the 3-point seatbelt was introduced, there was a 2-point seatbelt. In very serious car accidents, two-point seatbelts could cause serious injury, especially to your stomach and your spine. The 3-point seatbelt prevented exactly that. Its introduction was so subtle, car brands around Volvo started using it as well. Volvo essentially made it a patent for other car brands to use, this free of charge. The third one is vaccination. Vaccination is specifically the reason why diseases like smallpox or rinderpest are completely eradicated. And disease like polio and measles, they're all on their way to become completely eradicated as well. These diseases which once killed in millions, no longer could kill because of vaccination. Although people specifically celebrated the eradication of smallpox itself, people did not celebrate the invention of the vaccination. In fact, people today still debate and still disagree on vaccination being used as a practical way to prevent disease. So if anything, it is far from celebrated.
