At the end of this clip, you’ll see Lee start to get tired. When he’s done doing whatever he’s doing, his brain basically overreacts and just shuts everything down. That’s called cataplexy. His entire body gives out, and he gets that limp, almost lifeless look. If you’ve never seen it before, it can be really scary, but for us, it’s something we’ve learned to recognize. Lee also has hypotonia, which means he has very low muscle tone. His muscles and joints are extremely loose, so his body is very floppy kind of like what people describe as “floppy baby syndrome.” Between the cataplexy and the hypotonia, his body doesn’t have the strength or muscle control that most people take for granted. I share these moments because a lot of people have never seen these conditions before, and I hope it helps people better understand what Lee lives with every single day.
