I hate when someone that is first gen or a child of immigrants say college is not worth it. College is a scam. College is not worth it. I am in New York for a week with work. And right now I'm talking to one of the ladies that are cleaning the rooms. When my mom came to the US, this is what she did. She cleaned hotel rooms. I remember going as a little girl to like help her, not really help her, but just hang out with her whenever she didn't have childcare. And my mom was only able to finish middle school. I don't even think she finished middle school. I have to ask her that. But as I have a college education, I am now making three to four times what my mom makes. And I'm in New York for work because of my college education. So it really baffles me when someone that has a similar background as me says that college is not worth it. Like, yes, not everyone gets all the same opportunities, but on average, going to get an education is always worth it.
