I'm sure you have that one friend, someone who is genuinely better at what they do better than most people in the room, but they're not famous at all and they're not recognized. But then you see someone else online, they have half the talent your friend does, but everyone knows their name. For example, a painter called Vermeer in the 17th century painted about 35 pieces in his entire lifetime and every single one of them was extraordinary. But he died in 1675. His wife had to file for bankruptcy. And then he was basically forgotten for about 200 years. And it wasn't because the work was bad, it was because nobody knew who this guy was. Clothing brands do the exact same thing. And yes, you might have guessed, I am talking about marketing, but that's not what I'm getting at here. Stay with me. In 1994, two psychologists, Collins and Miller, found that the more you reveal about yourself, the more people like you. And the more they like you, the more they want from you. This forms as a loop, and a loop then compounds. Your product content does not compound. And when you only post videos about your product online, you're fighting an uphill battle against brands that have millions of followers, brands that existed long before your brand was even alive. The smart founders think about it like this. They see it a bit differently. Spider-Man just came out a couple days ago. So the reason why so many people resonated with the story, isn't because he can swing and jump around from building to building, but because he had lost everything. In the beginning of the movie, he had no friends, no home, no family and no one remembered him. He was the product that everyone bought into, but behind the mask, his closest family and friends knew, no one knew him. And if you think about it, when you like heroes like Batman or Superman, you don't buy into them because they saved the city. You buy into the guy underneath, who keeps losing, the guy who can't pay rent, the guy who's not strong enough, the guy who has to get stronger, the guy who lost his girl, lost his babes. And no, some of you have. Can you see the pattern that's going on? You didn't buy the cape, you bought the cost of wearing it. Now, I know what you're thinking. Nobody cares about the product, they care about the product. I need to have the best hoodie, the best t-shirt, the best summer set. You're still missing the point here. Your failures, content, failures are the reason why your product exists today. And this has been the scenes with founders for the past few months. Everyone wants to fix their ads, your creatives, your website. And at one point, I wanted to do the same too. But no one is actually building as you, as a character. That's the thing. A personal brand isn't about being known, it's about people wanting to hand you their money because they resonate with you. So if you want me to show you what that looks like for your brand, DM me the word brand and I'll reach out to you.
