Boerboels

Boerboels. Uh, this is a terrible dog. So this is a terrible dog for you. Do not get this dog. Boerboel is very protective by nature. That's an F tier dog. I do like them, but they're not good for families. Yes, finally someone else on this app willing to tell the truth about Boerboels. I have owned five Boerboels in 18 years and because I love them, I want to preserve their original breed purpose. Boerboels are not your average pets. They are guardians. They are going to be territorial. They are going to be protective. You are never going to outtrain genetics. They need purpose, they need structure, they need leadership. They need someone who is going to commit and be devoted to training them and managing them for their entire lives. Even with excellent training, management never goes away. A Boerboel is still going to be a Boerboel. Management is going to look like using gates or crates when you have guests over or keeping your dog on a leash with you and using your obedience or just putting them away in another room. This is going to look like advocating for them when you're out in public and not expecting them to be friendly. They are not going to want to meet everyone they see. They are not a Golden Retriever. They are not going to want to play with every dog they see. Some Boerboels are dog aggressive. Can Boerboels live with families? Absolutely. Mine do and have for 18 years. We've had five kids and mine have been great. But living with a family is different than being a family pet. They are powerful working guardians. And if that's what you want and you're prepared for it, they are incredible dogs. If you're looking for an easygoing dog that loves everyone, loves other dogs, can fit into pretty much any lifestyle, this is the wrong breed for you. This is the wrong breed for you.
