You can't control every situation, and you can't control every outcome. But you can control your choices and reactions, and you can always choose your perspective on any moment of your life. Our automatic thoughts and feelings seem so powerful that we believe we must react to them as if they're always true. But 21st-century neuroscience makes it crystal clear: your brain is not your boss. You can get outside of your automatic thoughts and your physiology, and you can choose to look at the situation from a different perspective, put your mind in charge of your brain, and knock it off whenever you find yourself reacting instead of choosing. This is one of the most important decisions that you can make in your life if you want to become healthier, feel better, and be happier: choose to stop being a victim of your brain and start shaping your brain in a way that helps you. We call that self-brain surgery, but you can't change your life until you change your mind. Tell your brain who's boss. And remember that you're not in this alone. I'm here with you every day connecting neuroscience and scripture, and the Bible says in Romans 12:2 that you can be transformed when you renew your mind. God will help you do that, and I'll be here every day to give you practical ways to walk it out in your life. Follow me for daily encouragement, share this with a friend who needs more hope, and save it for the next time your brain tries to boss you around.
