"You're so lucky you go to Stanford" The luck: my mom immigrated to Spain from Colombia had me and then immigrated to US as a single mom without knowing english she worked as a nanny living paycheck to paycheck as I went to school and gave me the opportunity she never had even when we didn't have money for rent my mom always taught me to give back to others and be grateful for what we had when I was 8 I wanted to help her but couldn't get a job so I'd go to shoe conventions and try reselling with christmas and birthday money in highschool I took unpaid internships just to get more professional work experience even though we needed money my mom never let me take a job where I wouldn't learn anything ended up at community college because even state schools were too expensive and I didn't really understand or was prepared enough for college apps got a big tech internship paying $60 an hour freshman year of college and it changed my life and I worked nonstop to make sure I could return worked my a$$ in community college and got into stanford + 4 ivies and $200k in private scholarships and I can't even begin to explain how lucky I was through it all
