ON THE FACEBOOK GROUPS, THERE ARE PARENTS WHO ARE LOSING THEIR MINDS AND THREATENING TO PULL THEIR CHILDREN FROM THE SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE CELL PHONE POLICY. AND FEEL LIKE THEIR KIDS SHOULD BE ABLE TO ACCESS THEIR PHONES IN BETWEEN CLASS PERIODS AND AT LUNCHTIME. AND I. I'M, LIKE, CONFUSED. I FEEL LIKE THAT'S A REALLY BIG REACTION TO SUCH A SMALL PROBLEM. THEIR ARGUMENT IS THAT THE KIDS SHOULD BE ABLE. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET A HOLD OF THEIR KIDS IF THEY NEED TO. OKAY? OR THAT THE PHONES WILL KEEP THEM SAFE IF THERE IS LIKE, A SHOOTER OR AN EMERGENCY. NOW, WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL, WHICH WAS THE 90S, IF YOUR PARENTS NEEDED TO GET A HOLD OF YOU, THEY CALLED THE SCHOOL AND THE SCHOOL WOULD SEND YOU A MESSAGE. WE CAN JUST GO BACK TO IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL. I THINK WE'VE ALL GOTTEN A LITTLE TOO COMFORTABLE JUST BEING ABLE TO GET A HOLD OF EACH OTHER WHENEVER WE AND IT MAKES US UNCOMFORTABLE TO NOT BE ABLE TO DO THAT. BUT I THINK WE NEED TO SIT WITH THAT DISCOMFORT A LITTLE BIT. AND NUMBER TWO. HONESTLY, I FEEL LIKE CELL PHONES WOULD MAKE IT MORE DANGEROUS DURING AN EMERGENCY. I am glad that the cell phone policies that the kids can’t have their cell phones during the school day. I think it will encourage them to talk to one another in class instead of looking at their phones and encourage that social interaction. Our kids are lonely and depressed, and I certainly believe that cell phones have a negative impact on kids. I don’t think that they will keep students safer in an emergency. And I don’t think that it’s a big deal if parents can’t reach their kids at all time of the school day. You can just call the school. #education #cellphone #michigan #teachersoftiktok #students

The state of Michigan just passed a law that cell phones have to be put away during instructional time. So my kids district send out their policy, and they want the cell phones away in the morning, put away for the day until so they can't have them during passing time or at lunch or anything like that. So my husband sends my daughter, who's going into her freshman year, of the policy, and I'm like, okay, cool. Can't have her phone. No big. Didn't think twice about it. On the Facebook groups, there are parents who are losing their minds and threatening to pull their children from the school because of the cell phone policy. And feel like their kids should be able to access their phones in between class periods and at lunchtime. And I. I'm, like, confused. I feel like that's a really big reaction to such a small problem. Their argument is that the kids should be able. They should be able to get a hold of their kids if they need to. Okay? Or that the phones will keep them safe if there is like, a shooter or an emergency. Now, when I was in school, which was the 90s, if your parents needed to get a hold of you, they called the school and the school would send you a message. We can just go back to it's not a big deal. Okay. Um, it worked. It worked before cell phones. I think we've all gotten a little too comfortable just being able to get a hold of each other whenever we and it makes us uncomfortable to not be able to do that. But I think we need to sit with that discomfort a little bit. And number two. Honestly, I feel like cell phones would make it more dangerous during an emergency. Uh, if you don't have them or if you're calling or you're calling your parents and you're freaking out, that makes you more obvious to somebody, right? You're not silent. We. During these drills, we are like, you are silent. Just sit there. We don't want any. If we're sitting instead of running, right. Determining on where the person is, we don't want anybody to know where we are. Those cell phones could alert somebody to where you are through the through the light, through anything. And, um, I don't know. I was just like, that's the policy. That's the policy. I'm not pulling my kids because they can't have their cell phones during passing time or lunch time.
