Boys, call your mom. If she just dropped you off, she misses you terribly. She does. And she's probably going by your room and smelling your blankets and thinking about you and looking at pictures of you from when you were young. And if you would just call her, I tell you, you would make her day. She would be happy just to listen to you breathe on the phone. I once read that having a son is the longest, slowest breakup a woman will ever go through. I just dropped my son off on Saturday, and I feel this with my whole heart. And he called me yesterday, and I felt like a freaking teenager who's waiting for a boy who she likes to give her a call. And her heart burst open big and wide when that phone rings and she sees his number right there on the screen, and she can't believe he called. And she's so excited to talk to him. And I just had the biggest smile on my face. And my husband walked in the room and I was like, Jack's on the phone. I can tell because you're smiling so big. Call your mom, call your mom, call your mom. Even if it's just to say hi or how you doing? Or I love you. And it doesn't have to be a long conversation. She just wants to know that because, damn it, she's thinking about you.
