someone wanna point me to the economists that were forecasting the 83,000 jobs gain in July. I have some questions and if you're a job seeker, so should you. We have new news on the deteriorating job market today. And what they're saying is that we lost 23,000 jobs in July. And then May and June also got revised down by 103 jobs total. That's right, three straight months that were worse than even the experts expected. And somehow unemployment ticked down to 4.1%. Sounds good, right? It's not that stat dropped because over 2 million people left the labor force in November and they're still unemployed. They just disappeared from the numbers. And then we can layer in wage data, which shows that wage growth dropped to 3.2%. And for reference, that's the weakest wage growth that the US has seen in five years. And somehow inflation is hiking back up at the same time. So paychecks are shrinking in real terms as the prices climb. That's what I call compounding economic trauma. Fewer jobs, stalled wages, rising prices all at once. And workers over 50 who actually contribute to over 50% of the GDP are absorbing this most right now. A Boston College study found that nearly a quarter of older workers who have been laid off in the past decade never worked again. And then 11% of the ones who did took a pay decrease to go back into the workforce anyway. You can share this with anyone who's telling you that unemployment is basically flat. I'll tell them what's underneath it. And you can follow me for more on the slow squeeze that experts are calling a job market.
