A full casino resort just broke ground near Houston, and Texas isn’t even supposed to allow that. The Alabama Coushatta Tribe is building a 685,000 square foot resort 85 miles north of Houston, on tribal land where state gaming bans don’t apply. A 2022 Supreme Court ruling confirmed the right, and the tribe’s history in Texas goes back to before statehood, including helping Sam Houston win Texas independence. 366 hotel rooms. A resort style pool. Restaurants, bars, and a ballroom built for over a thousand guests. Construction is already underway, with an opening targeted for 2028. Would you make the drive from Houston for a resort weekend? Let me know below, and tag the friend who’d be down for it. — Morteza | Houston Storyteller and Real Estate Adviser
