Much of a billionaire's net worth can be tied up in company ownership, real estate, stocks, and other assets. Those assets can give someone access to credit even when their liquid cash is relatively small. Neumann was able to leverage the value of WeWork, his ownership position, his network, and the company's enormous growth story to access financing far beyond what his personal bank balance would suggest. That's one of the biggest differences between being rich in cash and being rich in assets. The wealthy often don't need to sell what they own to get money. They can use what they own to gain access to even more capital. The lesson is that net worth and cash are two completely different things.
