If you want a facelift, start with your chest. But not every chest roll is actually doing something. Some of the movements I see online are simply rolling the skin back and forth and wasting your time. The goal is not to pull the skin. Over the sternum, there isn’t normally a large superficial muscle belly to “massage” - although a sternalis muscle can be present as an anatomical variation. What we’re interested in here are the deeper fascial layers and their mobility over the sternum. So when you do this technique, don’t just pinch the surface. Work gradually and intentionally into the deeper tissue toward the sternum, without painful or aggressive pressure, and create a real fascial roll. Why do I start here? Because your chest, neck, and face don’t function as three separate pieces. Improving mobility through the chest and fascial tissues can reduce the feeling of downward tension through the front of the neck and create a more open, lifted appearance through the chest, neck, and face. Don’t just move the skin. Move the tissue. Save this tutorial and check your technique - if you’re only rolling the surface, go back and do it properly. 🩷
