5 THINGS I WISH KNEW BEFORE GETTING MY ROOK PIERCED

Here's my rook piercing up close. It is fully healed. I have a hoop in it right now. And I got it back in 2019 and this is what I wish I knew before I got it. Let's get right to the chase. The rook unfortunately is one of the most painful piercings. And it was my most painful piercing. I would give it about a 9 out of 10. I have a medium pain tolerance, but it definitely did hurt and it was very sore for like a day or two after. The second thing I wish I knew is that when you get your rook pierced, you have to get it pierced with a curved barbell. In my opinion, the curved barbells at my piercing studio were not the cutest. They were just the basic ones with the two balls on each end and they didn't have any cute designs. It was just plain silver titanium. The third thing I wish I knew is that you can't change it to a hoop until it's fully healed. That's pretty much the case for every piercing. I kept my barbell in for like about a year. And then I actually changed it to a curved clicker. And then I kept that in for another like year. And then finally I started styling it with a hoop. So basically you can take any earring that has like a dangly bit and make it a rook charm. And so this is what I did recently with this earring. It's actually a part of a different earring and I just added that to my hoop. And now it's a charm. The fourth thing I wish I knew is healing time. The healing is definitely something that I wish I had known. It's actually pretty easy to heal. It just takes a long time. Since it's tucked away in this inner part of your ear, it's less susceptible to getting like caught by your hair or like a hairbrush or getting like knocked into. That said, it still takes about 9 months to a year. And the fifth thing I wish I knew is styling with charms. So basically you can take any earring that has like a dangly bit and make it a rook charm. And so this is what I did recently with this earring. It's actually a part of a different earring and I just added that to my hoop. And now it's a charm.
